Advice and Consultancy - Emeritus Professor Peter Horton BA, DPhil, DSc

I am Emeritus Professor at the University of Sheffield, UK. After graduating with a Class 1 degree and doctorate in Biology at the University of York, I worked in academic institutions in the USA and UK for over 30 years and became one of the world’s leading plant bioscience researchers. My research interests are multidisciplinary crossing the boundaries of biochemistry, biophysics, physiology, ecology and agronomy, and involve international collaborations spread across 12 countries in 5 continents. I have worked jointly with universities, governments, industry and non-governmental organisations. I am the author of nearly 200 peer-reviewed papers in leading scientific journals including four recent papers in Nature, as well as numerous book chapters, conference papers and abstracts. I have won over 50 competitive research grants from US, UK and EU funding bodies and have extensive experience of editing, reviewing and reporting on scientific documents. Dedicated also to teaching and training, I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and holder of a Diploma in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education.

I have served as an advisor to numerous international organisations and projects. Currently, I am external advisor to the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) in relation to improving rice photosynthesis, to an interdisciplinary Marie Curie Training Network of the EU that is focussed upon photosynthetic light harvesting, and I am bioenergy advisor to the University of Sheffield.
